Our rootstocks
To choose the rootstock is a fundamental operation that can jeopardize
the future of the vineyard.
Adaptability
to soil environnment
Every american variety has its natural dispositions
to prosper in any type of soil.
Physical environment
The rootstocks are characterized by the disposition and
the orientation of their root system; thus :
some rootstocks with tracing root system
(Riparia Gloire, SO4, 41B)
some root stocks with tap root system
(Lot, R99)
some rootstocks with intermediate system
(3309, R140, 161.49,
44-53)
Chemical environment
the limestone
the salt
Among the most resistant varieties, let us point
out : the hybrids of Solonis, 1616 and 216.3. The root stocks R 31 and the
Paulsen 1103.
The diverse rootstocks have a strength which is between 1
g and 1,5 g of NaCl for 1.000 of dry soil.
Biological
Environment
Phylloxera : all present rootstocks
are phylloxera proof.
Nematodes :
- Resistant rootstocks : SO4, 5BB, 99 R, 1616, 44.53,
- Fairly resistant rootstocks : 420 A, 101.14, 110 R, Riparia
- Sensitive rootstocks : 3309, 196-17, G1, 161.49, 216.3, 31 R, 41 B
Before
choosing a rootstock, it is absolutly necessary to proceed to take samples cores
of the earth and to carry out analysis in order to determine its
characteristics.
