Advice for planting
SOIL
PREPARATION
Subsoiling
Aim: Facilitate the
installation of the root system.
Period: Summer before planting.
Depth: When soil and subsoil are homogeneous as deep as possible. If the
soil lays on a rocky or calcareous subsoil, One should loosen the deep
substratum through subsoiling.
Roots of previous cultivations need to be removed to avoid propagation of
degeneration diseases.
Fertilization: Organic fertilization is desirable.
Soil preparation after subsoiling: big clods will go away through the
winter colds, loosen the top soil with superficial cultivation.
Desinfection:
Nematicides do
away with nematodes who are virus vectors, it is therefore highly recommended to
use them each time that a vineyard is immediately replanted over former vineyard
land.
PLANTATION DEPTH
In most soils
it should be 28-30 cm.
In very compact soils and damp soils,
the depth should not exceed 16-18 cm.
PLANTATION
Plant
reception:
It
is essential to keep the freshness of plants. It is therefore advised to plunge
plants in fresh water during one day and maintain them in wet and cool places
sheltered from wind and sun in order to prevent desiccation. Air pockets need in
all cases be avoided.
Planting:
The success and beauty of
the vineyard depend on how the planting is carried out. It is essential to keep
the best possible contact between the plant and the soil and avoid air pockets.
Irrigation immediately after planting is advised.
Mounding:
It shelters the plants from dessication.
Waxing:
Waxing can be made in lieu of mounding. In that
case dip the plants apexes in a bath of melted paraffin (temperature 80-85
degree Celcius).
Plastic mulching:
This can be done in percolating soils.
Season of planting:
Winter or spring.
Pot:
Our company
has produced plants in pots since 1967. This technique allows planting
throughout the year.
